Today, more than half of the country is breathing a big sigh of relief that at 12:01 pm on January 20th, 2021, we will have Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. Yet, getting President Donald Trump out of the White House has not been quite the unifying force some expected. Somehow, there was a belief that most Republican elected officials would return to standing up for the rule of law and democratic norms. …

Queen Latifah in The Equalizer. Barbara Nitke/CBS

CBS’s The Equalizer, a reboot of the 1985 series of the same name, stars Queen Latifah as former CIA operative Robyn McCall. The show premiered on February 8th after the Superbowl. Its permanent time-slot is Sundays at 8 pm on CBS.

Now, before going any further, let’s just get this point out of the way. If you’re expecting a network crime drama to not be “formulaic” you’re going to hate every single one of them. America watched a video of a white officer slowly killing an African-American man, Mr. George Floyd. As a result, black, brown, and white Americans have taken to the streets in protest. It’s not the first time such a thing has happened, although the number of white people in these protests is higher than it’s ever been. These are scary times. After three years of Donald Trump as the U.S. President, it is looking like we could be in America’s twilight hours as a true democratic republic. Before Trump became President of the United States I blogged about TV shows and the entertainment industry. After he was elected, I found doing so to be a near impossible task. It seemed to be a frivolous pastime in a world that was taking a dark turn in ways I had never imagined modern history would see again. Yet, seventy-one years after the end of World War II, it clearly…

When it comes to having Donald Trump as the 45th U.S. President, the list of horrors is such that one can easily become overwhelmed. What immediately may come to mind is how his own racist and misogynist actions and attitudes have given comfort and cover to those with similar views. Many of those holding such views are a part of the American minority that voted him into the office of President and who continue to support him.

This appalling situation is just the tip of the iceberg. A recent report states that U.S. air quality was worse over the last…

Whether you call yourself a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent, you likely consider this particular time in America to be, at best, a difficult one. As a nation, we have always had political differences of opinion about how much the Federal Government should be allowed to regulate businesses and people. It’s the beauty of having a two-party democracy. Our system lets our differences co-exist.

However, there have been times that our politics and politicians have gone beyond mere political divergence. Whenever basic moral imperatives have been put on the line, civility has broken down. The results have been violations…
